Mold Damage Sneaks Up on Unsuspecting Los Angeles Homeowners

1/30/2018 (Permalink)

Small leaks that go unnoticed can lead to major mold damage in your home.

SERVPRO Locates and Eliminates Causes for Mold Growth in Your Home

Sometimes it is the little things that cause significant issues to your Los Angeles home’s well-being. A major flood or storm you respond to immediately is a transient disaster that a quality restoration company can completely remediate. But you may need that company even more desperately when hidden problems resulting from moisture reveal themselves.

Daily seemingly minor water damage frequently occurs without you taking any notice of it in your Los Angeles home. Mold damage links to the constant dripping of a tiny leak in a pipe or loose connection that soaks the area under a cabinet or behind a wall. The discovery of the microbial growth might occur because of a remodeling project or because a rank smell is impossible to ignore after air fresheners do not clear it. Our mold remediators are familiar with secret mold colonies and have learned the appropriate method to abate them.

SERVPRO mold remediation follows the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) protocols. The basic steps are location, containment, removal, and sanitization. Often the homeowner does the location step for us, although we will inspect further to ensure we miss nothing. Although we have access to the resources, it is not always necessary to test for mold if it is clear where the problem is found.

After we establish the extent of the mold infestation, we contain the area to prevent the fungi from spreading during remediation. This is an exact task as the tiniest bits can develop into full-blown mold colonies if allowed to drift or be tracked elsewhere. SERVPRO employees don full personal protection during remediation, and use physical barriers and frequently technology like negative pressure air scrubbers to filter and vent the air to the outside while they work.

The mold and any porous material contaminated is physically removed and discarded according to applicable hazardous waste disposal rules. SERVPRO crews then vacuum up any residue with HEPA outfitted equipment and treat the area with an effective antimicrobial to inhibit further growth.

All of the above efforts are for nothing if SERVPRO employees do not find and eliminate the source of moisture that fuels the original mold outbreak. We trace the water possibilities back until the leak or broken plumbing can be permanently repaired. Then we count the job of mold remediation closed, at least for this episode.

SERVPRO of Marina Del Rey / Westchester / El Segundo is determined to remediate even difficult to locate and access mold growth and damage. Call our office at (310) 333-0654 to schedule an appointment for a mold abatement evaluation.
