SERVPRO Restores Damage in Los Angeles Properties Caused by Water

Despite the rain coming down now and recently, most problems with water are a result of plumbing failures. If unnoticed or ignored for too long, a leaking pipe can cause just as much damage as several inches of flood water.

If water damage happens to your home in Los Angeles, call us today at SERVPRO. Each of our offices has extensive experience and training in finding and dealing with many different kinds of plumbing failures as well as any damage that may have occurred already. Leaks and damage that goes unnoticed are usually under a bathroom or kitchen sink. Few of us ever look underneath except to check for regular supplies such as dish soap. Even then, almost no one looks all the way to the back of the cabinet. These are simply areas that few renters or homeowners check even if they do their best to perform a monthly inspection.

A problem goes unnoticed unless water is seen coming from the cabinet frame, if the lamination used on the frame begins to peel, or if the carpet surrounding the sink squishes underfoot. In a kitchen, a problem is unnoticed until the surrounding linoleum starts to come loose in front of the sink.

First, our technicians turn off the source of the leak. Stopping it usually, means just tightening up a loose pipe or connection. Replacement happens if corrosion has compromised either one or both. Next, technicians check to see if there is mold. For a small area, one of our anti-microbial cleaners is sufficient to stop the mold from growing further. With the obvious threat neutralized, our team members use air moisture meters to determine if the levels are above normal.

If the moisture levels are too high, our employees use a combination of dehumidifiers and exhaust fans to draw high humidity air out of the affected room. Moisture levels are checked again after a certain amount of time (usually 24 hours). In most case, this is enough, but one of our inspectors may recommend placing the cabinet frame if the wood is still moisture-rich.

Cleaning up after a plumbing disaster can quickly become expensive. To ensure a rapid and professional response, rely on SERVPRO of Marina Del Rey / Westchester / El Segundo. Contact us today at (310) 333-0654 to begin.
